Mixed-Billing

Our medical centre  offers both bulk billing and private billing services to patients. This means that the centre does not follow a single billing method but instead uses a combination, depending on various factors like the type of service, the patient's eligibility, or the doctor's policy.

Here’s a breakdown of the two billing methods used:

🔹 Bulk Billing

  • The patient is not charged directly.

  • The medical provider bills Medicare directly.

  • Medicare pays the doctor a set fee for the service.

  • Typically offered to:

    • Children

    • Pensioners

    • Healthcare card holders

    • Certain chronic disease management visits

  • 🔹 Private Billing

  • The patient pays out-of-pocket for the consultation.

  • The patient can then claim a Medicare rebate, but there may be a "gap" fee (the difference between the doctor's fee and the Medicare rebate).

  • Common for:

  • General patients

  • Weekend or after-hours appointments

  • Longer consultations or specialized services

  • 🔹 Why a Centre Chooses Mixed Billing

  • Covers operational costs (e.g., rent, staff, equipment)

  • Allows flexibility in offering bulk billing to those in need

  • Enables fair compensation for doctors’ time and services

  • If you're visiting our centre, it’s a good idea to check ahead whether your specific consultation will be bulk billed or privately billed.
